Steam Achievements and In-Game Medals

Two confirmed progress-record systems with different counts

How to distinguish IRON NEST's 33 Steam achievements from its advertised 100+ unlockable medals, and why neither count alone reveals every unlock condition or progression path.

Thirty-three Steam achievements and more than one hundred medals are not competing counts.

IRON NEST’s current Steam listing presents two different records of accomplishment. Steam lists 33 Steam achievements for the product. The game’s official feature language separately advertises more than 100 unlockable medals. The numbers are not a contradiction and should not be added together, swapped or used to infer a hidden reward table.

An achievement is a Steam-platform record exposed through the store and Steam client. A medal is an in-game progression or collection concept described by the developers. They may overlap in theme, but the reviewed public product text does not publish a one-to-one mapping, exact unlock conditions, reward effects or a complete list of either system’s names. This page gives players a method for reading and documenting the distinction accurately.

The two confirmed counts

The full-game Steam page currently states that the title includes 33 Steam achievements. This is a platform feature and can be verified through Steam’s own product and achievement interfaces. The same official product material advertises “Unlockable 100+ Medals.” That wording establishes a larger in-game medal scale but does not define every medal as a Steam achievement.

Use precise language. Say “Steam lists 33 achievements” when you mean the Steam count. Say “the official game feature list advertises more than 100 unlockable medals” when you mean the in-game claim. Do not say “there are 133 achievements,” “every medal is a Steam achievement,” or “the game has only 33 medals.” Those statements confuse categories the sources keep separate.

The count dates matter. Store totals can be updated with achievements added or removed in future patches, while an in-game medal system can change independently. Record the date on which you checked a number and link the primary product page.

Achievements are platform records

Steam achievements are part of the platform layer. The current listing also states that IRON NEST supports Steam Cloud and Family Sharing. These features are useful to players who want their Steam profile progress and save-related platform support, but they do not explain every game-state behavior.

An achievement can be visible in Steam even if its in-game presentation is minimal. Conversely, a game can track medals or challenges internally without each one creating a Steam achievement. A Steam achievement name, icon or percentage may provide a clue about an accomplishment, but it is not a complete explanation of game mechanics or a guarantee that a method applies in every mode.

When documenting an achievement, capture the exact Steam name, date, description if shown, platform and whether the requirement is hidden. If you also observed an in-game medal at the same moment, record both notices separately. Similar timing does not prove identity.

Medals are an in-game scale claim

The official language promises more than 100 unlockable medals. This tells players that the game includes a broad collection or recognition system beyond the count of Steam achievements. It does not say whether every medal grants a gameplay advantage, cosmetic item, profile display, narrative flag, score bonus or simply a record of an accomplishment.

It also does not state the distribution. We do not know from the reviewed public text how many medals belong to story, procedural objectives, challenge modes, regional progress, task completion, hidden events or other categories. Avoid building a progression guide around a guessed taxonomy.

The abilities and progression reference discusses the same evidence boundary alongside the combined “30x Ammo Types and Abilities” wording and 15-region count. The useful conclusion is not that progression is unknowable; it is that names, triggers and effects must be observed or documented before they become wiki facts.

Why counts are easy to confuse

Both systems use reward language. Both can appear after a mission. Both may use icons, names and completion feedback. Both can motivate replay. A player may naturally call everything an “achievement.” That is conversationally understandable but creates trouble for a reference page, where a Steam profile item and an in-game medal might have different scopes.

The safest personal record has two columns. The first is Steam achievement: exact title, platform notice, date and visible description. The second is in-game medal: exact in-game label, screen or mission, date, mode, observed trigger and any stated effect. Add a third column for relationship unknown unless the current interface explicitly connects them.

This method catches a common error: treating a reward notification as proof that you unlocked an ability. The official product page advertises medals and a combined ammunition/ability pool, but it does not say all medals grant new equipment. Preserve the actual notice rather than filling in a reward theory.

Challenge modes and completion evidence

The official feature list also confirms two challenge modes and leaderboards. These may be relevant to achievements or medals, but the product text does not publish a rule that every challenge score produces one, or that a medal requires leaderboard participation. A challenge run is a context, not a universal unlock condition.

If you observe a medal after a challenge, record the mode, objective, score if shown, completion state, patch/build and full notification. Retest if possible. If a Steam achievement appears too, keep its platform data beside—not inside—the in-game record. This creates evidence that another player can compare without being told a speculative “fastest medal route.”

The same care applies to procedural objectives. A repeatable objective may reveal a pattern, but repetition is needed before calling it a guaranteed trigger. A story event may award a unique medal once without proving that it is tied to a region or exact shell state.

Steam Cloud appears in the product’s listed Steam features. It is valuable for players who use multiple computers or need to consider save synchronization. It is not evidence that every medal, achievement, setting, challenge result or current mission state instantly syncs under every condition. Cloud behavior can be affected by Steam account state, network availability, platform and timing.

Before relying on it, let the game save in a safe state, allow Steam to complete synchronization and verify the result on the second device. Do not force-close the game during a write or assume that a platform achievement update proves a save has synced. If something differs between machines, record the build, device, cloud status and exact type of progress that is missing.

This operational distinction keeps a platform convenience from becoming a false universal save guarantee.

A reliable unlock record

When an accomplishment appears, record:

  1. whether it appeared in Steam, in game or both;
  2. the exact visible name and icon;
  3. build/version, platform, mode and mission context;
  4. objective and outcome immediately before it appeared;
  5. any stated reward or description;
  6. whether a second attempt reproduced the condition;
  7. any relationship to an achievement, medal, challenge or ability marked as explicit versus unknown.

This does not turn play into a database chore. It turns a satisfying discovery into something a guide can explain without overstating it.

The dependable conclusion

Current official Steam material lists 33 Steam achievements and more than 100 unlockable in-game medals. They are different confirmed systems with different counts. The reviewed public sources do not publish a complete mapping, unlock table or reward-effect chart.

Keep platform achievements and in-game medals in separate records, cite their current source and preserve the exact notification when you earn one. That gives a player useful progression evidence without combining two honest numbers into one false answer.
